A circumstantial case leaves Keel wondering if the person is just missing or dead. With the help of Dee Sterling, a human lie detector, the trail leads out of his jusrisdiction into the land of the White Mountain Apache, where relations with the local police are marginal. He is forced to hire an Apache detective to investigate on the reservation while trying to balance his time between local cases and family life.
