Sometimes I have moments of extreme clarity when I think I understand the problems of Christians who have lived and died before me. In the past, I have fought the urge to write essays on the topics of my meditation, reasoning that other Christians have already done this much better than I could do. But lately, I have come to realize that writings from previous generations are thought by many people not to be applicable today. Of course, when you are older and wiser, you know this isn’t the case. The problems we face today are no more complex than they were yesterday. We only think they are.
For the sake of those who stubbornly insist that no writer from a previous generation could ever understand Christian problems in our modern times, I have decided to add my contemporary thoughts to those so-called, ignorant predecessors. In so doing, you, the reader, will have one less excuse to ignore their counsel.
